Jahrelang haben wir beklagt, daß ein Großteil der deutschen Interpreten musikalisch auf dem Stand des 70er-Jahre-Countrysounds stehen geblieben ist. Nun, allerspätestens mit dem Album „I Didn’t Look Back“ der Band Country Stars aus dem Jahre 2002 wurden wir eines besseren belehrt. Die 1991 gegründete Band überzeugt durch einen erfrischenden New Country-Stil, der ältere Songs wie „Eighteen Wheels“ von Kathy Matthea oder „Amazing Grace“ im Stil der Nitty Gritty Dirt Band im modernen Gewand präsentiert. Aber auch ihre eigenen Songs, so z.B. „I Didn’t Look Back“ oder „For My Love“, ein Cowboy-Cha Cha, sind ein musikalischer Genuß. In alle Songs ihrer CD kann man übrigens auf der Homepage der Country Stars hineinhören.
Wer also in seinem CD-Regal zwischen den amerikanischen Künstlern eine Rubrik für gutgemachte Countrymusic aus Deutschland frei hat – das Album der Country Stars würde sich dort sicher wohlfühlen.
For a long time it was a pity that many German country music artists continued to play country music like it was in the seventies. New country music seemed to be ignored. But with the 2002 album “I Didn’t Look Back” by the German band Country Stars is really straight new country. Founded in 1991 they present a real fresh sound givig even older songs like the Kathy Matthea song “Eighteen Wheels” or “Amazing Grace” in Nitty Gritty Dirt Band style a modern image.
