History of Country Special Radio Berlin

When in autumn 1991 some Berlin country music fans met for the first time to discuss the idea of an own country music radio show, nobody ever thought about this project becoming an organisation known far away from the borders of Berlin. The flash point for this project was the decision of the Berlin radio station SFB to stop his weekly country music show. Some German country music fans who were dissatisfied with the inadequate presence of country music in German radio decided to produce their own country musio radio show on Offener Kanal Berlin on cable 92.6 FM.. On February 1st, 1992 COUNTRY SPECIAL RADIO BERLIN (CSR Berlin) started his first radio show with the song „Deportee“ from the Highwaymen. Since then CSR Berlin produces a radio show every two weeks with country music djs presenting news, event tips, interviews, reports, comments, trips into country music history and, of course, lots of music from the big world of country & western scene. CSR Berlin is a noncommercial organisation, which supports the international country music scene.

Since 1992, CSR Berlin was not only found in the Offener Kanal Berlin: for nearly 2 years the team produced weekly tv show taking 4 hours on FERNSEHEN AUS BERLIN (FAB) as well as a radio show in English on radio stations in the USA, Poland, Ireland, Belgium and The Netherlands.

One principal task of CSR Berlin is to give only regional known country music artists from all over  the world the chance to present their  music to the country music fans. there are a lot of highlights in the history of CSR Berlin like the reports from the Black Hills Country Festival in Belgium, from the first performance of GARTH BROOKS in Frankfurt/Germany or the NEW AMERICAN MUSIC FESTIVAL in Stuttgart/Germany.

It’s the job of CSR Berlin to raise it’s voice against grievances in the vountry music scene and to inform the country music fans as actual and neutral as possible.

During  the last years CSR Berlin took also part in lots of country music festivals. The djs of the services TEX-MOBIL and WOELCKCHENS MOBILE DISKOTHEK are on stage with knowledge, music and fun and produced big parties with the fans on events in whole Germany.

CSR Berlin will keep the flag of country music in Germany high in the air and stick to its guideline:

„...from country fans – to country fans!“
