“On The Other Side”

Wow – viel mehr kann man bei dieser CD eigentlich gar nicht sagen. Hätte uns jemand dieses Album einfach vorgespielt, hätte das gesamte Team vom Country Special Radio Berlin Stein und Bein geschworen, dass es sich um unveröffentlichte Aufnahmen des „Man In Black“ Johnny Cash handeln würde. Eine solche stimmliche Ähnlichkeit – absolut verblüffend. Aber nicht nur der reine Gesang – auch Betonungen und Aussprache entsprechen zu nahezu 100 % dem Altmeister. Kein Wunder, dass der 1949 geborene Mandy Johnny Cash zu seinen großen Vorbildern zählt. Mit seiner Familie (u.a. einem amerikanischen Stiefvater) lebte er bereits in der Jugend einige Zeit in Texas und Tennessee und stand schon mit 9 Jahren auf den Bühnen der amerikanischen Clubs in den Kasernen rund um Ulm. Seine erste Band „Mandy’s East Place Company“ gründete er 1985 und 1992 eröffnete er das Honkytonk „Country Coffee Santa Fe“, bevor er 1994 in Nashville seine erste CD aufnahm.

Das aktuelle Album gehört zu einer selten geworden Sorte: man kann es ohne Einbußen vom ersten bis zum letzten Titel genießen. Egal ob „The Last Hank“, ein Duett mit JoEl Sonnier, „Man On The Run“ oder „“Dirty Little Town“ mit Becky Hobbs – oder alle anderen Titel, ein einmaliges Erlebnis. Eigentlich schade, dass auf der Homepage von Mandy keine Hörbeispiele zu finden sind. Dafür findet man dort seine Auftrittstermine, die man sich ganz dick und rot im Kalender anstreichen sollte. Leute, besucht unbedingt eines seiner Konzerte!  Mandy ist unser absoluter Geheimtip für Euch!

Wow – what more can we say after listening this cd. If somebody would have presented this music to us without telling us the artist – man, we would have bet everything we have to listen to unreleased recordings of “The Man In Black” Johnny Cash. It’s nearly – more than nearly – the same voice, but it’s not only the voice – it’s also the way he speaks and forms the words. It’s unbelievable! No wonder Mandy declares Johnny Cash to be one of his musical idols. Born in 1949 he passed a lot of time as a child in Texas and Tennesse together with his family (American step father) and started to play the U.S. clubs in the barracks around the German town Ulm being 9 years old. He founded his first band “Mandy’s East Place Company” in 1985 and in 1992 he opened his own honky tonk “Country Coffe Santa Fe” before recording his first album in Nashville in 1994.

 His latest album is a very rare kind: you can sit down and listen to it from the first to the last title witout regrets. Try “The Last Hank”, a duet with JoEl Sonnier, “Man On The Run” or “Dirty Little Town” together with Becky Hobbs – or all the other songs, it’s really fantastic! Don’t look for music examples at the website of Mandy, but take his touring schedule and mark the dates thick and red in your filofax. Folks, you’ve got to listen Mandy someday somewhere!
