„All In Vain“

Schön, wenn deutsche Countrybands beweisen, dass auch Songwriterqualitäten in ihnen stecken. Auf dem 2003 erschienen Album „All In Vain“ der 1982 gegründeten Bad „Montana Highway“ aus dem Süden Deutschlands stammen alle zehn Songs aus eigener Feder, und diese sind ganz klar für einen Crossover-Einsatz (Erfolg sowohl im Country- als auch im Rock-/Popbereich) produziert. Aber was bleibt einer deutschen Band auch übrig, wenn sie mit ihrem Album nennenswerte Radioeinsätze und damit auch Umsatzzahlen erzielen will? Wer also Countrymusic nicht ausschließlich über Fiddle und Steelguitar definiert und rockig geprägten New Country mag, ist mit Montana Highway und vor allem der äußerst interessanten Stimme der Sängerin Karoline Thalhofer gut beraten. Eine Produktion fernab des in Deutschland immer noch verbreiteten „Ich-fahr-nen-Truck-nachts-um-drei-und-hinten-rechts-platzt-mir-ein-Reifen-und-so-weiter“. Sowohl Biker als auch Countryrockfans dürften an Songs wie „All In Vain“, „Listen To My Promise“, „You Saved My Life In A Country Pub“ oder dem schönen Bluegrass-Stück „First Lake Country“ Gefallen finden, die Ihr Euch auf der Homepage von Montana Highway anhören könnt. Kein Album zum schnellen Konsumieren – nehmt Euch Zeit, um das musikalische Country-Gold unter einer rauhen Rock-Schale zu entdecken.

It’s nice to find a German country music band presenting its songwriter qualities: all ten songs on the 2003 album “All In Vain” are self-penned by the members of “Montana Highway” founded in 1982 in the southern region of Germany and these songs show a straight cross-over character to fit in country as well as in rock. But hey, that’s the way a band must do it to be played by  numerous German radio stations and to get goog selling rates in Germany. If you don’t define country music exclusively by hearing a fiddle and a steel guitar and if you like the rockin’ side of country music take a chance on Montana Highway and the very interesting voice of lead singer Karoline Thalhofer. This is no usual German country music production (“Driving-my-truck-on-the-highway-at-three-in-the-morning-and-I-need-a-coffee-and-so-on”). We think also bikers and country-rock fans will like songs like „All In Vain“, „Listen To My Promise“, „You Saved My Life In A Country Pub“ or the nice bluegrass track „First Lake Country“ you can find at the website of Montana Highway for listening. That’s really no album for consuming it quickly – it takes a little time to find the country music gold below a rough rock surface.
