Der auf einer Farm im Nordosten von Arkansas aufgewachsene Countrysänger atmet förmlich das, was er in seinen Songs besingt: „I Love You And I Hate You“ (erinnert verblüffend an „Murder On Music Row“), „Honky Tonk Cowboy“, „My Dad (Captain Tom)“ – es sind Lieder, die das Leben (und teilweise auch sein Leben) wiederspiegeln. Eine Stimme, die man sich durchaus sowohl an einem Lagerfeuer als auch in einem Honkytonk oder bei einem Ranchfest vorstellen kann.
