„Tower Grass“
Bereits 1999 wurde das Album “Tower Grass” der deutschen Bluegrassformation Fox Tower Bluegrass Band produziert. Die 1984 von Andy Glandt gegründete Band dürfte auch Countryfreunden aus der ehemaligen DDR noch ein Begriff sein: ihre Songs findet man bereits auf den damaligen Amiga-Produktionen. In ihrer nunmehr zwanzigjährigen Geschichte können die Musiker auf Europa- & USA-Tourneen zurückblicken. 1999 erhielten sie den „Best Of Texas Award“ als beste internationale Bluegrass Band in Magnolia, Texas und 2000 waren sie eine von zwölf weltweit ausgewählten Bluegrass Bands, die beim Showcase der International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) spielen durften.
Auf ihrem Album „Tower Grass“ findet Ihr saubere, in die Beine gehende, handgemachte Bluegrassmusik mit einigen Leckerbissen. Bluegrass ist ja dafür bekannt, daß auch mal in anderen Musikgenres gewildert wird und diese Songs dann mit Banjo, Mandoline und Fiddle neu präsentiert werden. Daher sind der Ray Charles-Titel „Georgia On My Mind“ oder „Cecilia“, bekannt geworden durch Simon & Garfunkel, wirklich gelungene Bluegrass-Versionen. Dazu gibt es neben weiteren Songs ein rhythmisch sehr interessantes „Between 7 And 8“ (ein „Zwiefacher“, ein Stück mit zwei verschiedenen Rhythmen war mir bisher nur aus der alpenländischen Musik bekannt) sowie der keltische Song „Corcaigh“ (beide letztgenannten gibt es als Hörprobe auch auf der Homepage von Andy Glandt). Alle Bluegrass-Freunde sollten unbedingt einen ersten Kontakt mit der Musik der Fox Tower Bluegrass Band aufnehmen oder bereits bestehende Kontakte durch einen Besuch ihrer Konzerte vertiefen. This album „Tower Grass“ by the German bluegrass formation Fox Tower Bluegrass Band was produced in 1999. The band founded in 1984 by Andy Glandt should be quite common to country music fans from the former GDR: you can already find their songs on the old-time Amiga Records albums. Being on stage for now 20 years the band can proudly look back on several European and U.S.tours including a “Best Of Texas Award” for best international bluegrass band in 1999 and playing among 12 international world-wide chosen bluegrass acts at the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) showcase.
On “Tower Grass”you will find straight “feet-movin’” handmade bluegrass sound including some musical “sweets”. Bluegrass music is well-known for hunting in other musical areas for good songs, adopting them and presenting them with banjo, mandoline and fiddle. And here you can find great bluegrass versions of the Ray Charles song “Georgia On My Mind” or “Cecilia” you might know by Simon & Garfunkel. Beside other songs there’s also a very interesting “Between 7 And 8” (until now I only found a “Zwiefacher”, a song carrying two different rhythms, in the music from the European Alps) and a celtic song called “Corgaigh” (both songs you will find at the website of Andy Glandt). If you’re a fan of bluegrass sound you should get a first contact to the Fox Tower Bluegrass Band or continue to visit their performances. I tell you, Bill Monroe would be proud of those guys!
