Bluegrass-Fans aufgepasst – hier gibt’s ein “Schmankerl „ aus dem Hause Lonesomeday Records! Bluegrassmusic mit ihren Wurzen in den Smoky Mountains von Kentucky ist häufig mit religiösen Elementen durchsetzt (Gospels und Spirituals gehören seit je her zum Bluegrass-Repertoire). Dieses Album „Two Roads To Travel“ kann man als „Christian Bluegrass“ bezeichnen. Jeff Parker, dessen Vater regelmäßig in der Sendung „The Renfro Valley Barn Dance“ auftrat, hörte mit 12 Jahren zum ersten Mal die Bluegrassformation The Russell Brothers“ – und das war der Einstieg zu einer Musikerkarriere. Der Mandolinenspieler und Sänger gründete die Familienband „Sounds of Gospel“ (mit 12 Jahren) sowie später „Train 45“ und spielte in zahlreichen anderen Bluegrassbands, bevor er mit 25 Jahren selbst Mitglied beim „Renfro Valley Barn Dance“ wurde und dort bis 1994 auftrat. 1995 gründete er „Wilderness Trail“ und 2001 wurde er dann Mitglied bei der „Lonesome River Band“, eine überregional bekannt Bluegrassformation.
Normalerweise beeindruckt Bluegrass durch die Virtuosität der Musiker bei den Uptempo-Stücken – und solche (wie „Higher Ground Awaiting“, „Going Up“ oder das wirklich atemberaubend schnelle „Anywhere Is Home“) sind natürlich auch auf dieser CD vorhanden. Uns persönlich beeindruckten aber auf diesem Album von Jeff Parker besonders die eher ruhigen Songs. In Kombination mit der christlichen Botschaft in den Texten sind der Walzer „Meet You In Heaven“ (mit Russell Moore im Harmoniegesang), „I Steal Away And Pray“ (großartig!) und besonders der Schlusssong „Jesus Found Me“ (ein wahrhaft „himmlischer“ Sound!) echte musikalische Perlen. Besucht unbedingt die Seite von Lonesomeday Records und denkt darüber nach, Euch ein Exemplar zu besorgen. Für uns reiht sich dieses Album durchaus in die Reihen der großen Bluegrassproduktionen der vergangenen Jahrzehnte ein – es atmet den Geist von Bill Monroe and His Bluegrass Boys.

Jeff Parker whose father was a regular at “The Renfro Valley Barn Dance” listened to the bluegrass band “The Russell Brothers” for the first time being 12 years old – and that was the start for a musical career. Playing mandolin and singing he founded the family band “Sounds of Gospel” and “Train 45” later on before performing with several other bluegrass bands. Being 25 years old he became a member of the “Renfro Valley Barn Dance” himself and performed there until 1994. Listening to bluegrass music you will get impressed by the virtuosity in up-tempo songs – and you can find a lot of them on this album (like “Higher Ground Awaiting”, “Going Up” or the REALLY quick “Anywhere Is Home”). But listening to this production we were deeply impressed especially by the slower songs. In combination with the christian message in the lyrics the waltz “Meet You In Heaven” with a great harmony singing by Russell Moore, “I Steal Away And Pray” (simply great!) or the final song “Jesus Found Me” (what a real “heavenly” sound!) are unique precious pearls.
