Januar 2005 vor einem Gericht in Taos, New Mexico wegen Ladendiebstahls und Widerstand gegen einen Police Officer (wir berichteten) verantworten und kann daher nicht wie geplant zur Country Music Messe 2005 und zu den GACMF Awards nach Deutschland kommen.

Don Helms hat Schlaganfall

Laut einer Mitteilung von Marty Martel bei Twangtown USA hat der ehemalige Steelguitarist der Drifting Cowboys (Begleitband von Hank Williams), Don Helms, am 14. Januar 2005 einen Schlaganfall erlitten. Er wurde in ein Krankenhaus eingeliefert, befindet sich aber auf dem Weg der Besserung.

 Marty Martel informs at Twangtown USA that the former steel guitarist of the Drifting Cowboys (the band of Hank Williams), Don Helms, had a stroke on January 14th, 2005 and was taken to hospital. His conditions are told to normalize slowly.

Laut einer Meldung der Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA) hat die 18jährige Countrysängerin Samantha McClymont aus Grafton, NSW am 18. Januar 2005 in Tamworth, Australien den Toyota Star Maker Quest 2005 gewonnen. Im Prreis enthalten ist die Produktion und Veröffentlichung einer CD mit zwei Titeln.

Big Mal Rice verstorben

 

Laut einer Meldung der Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA) verstarb am 8. Januar 2005 der australische Countrysänger Malcolm Rice (bekannt als Big Mal Rice) im Royal Adelaide Hospital an einer Gehirnblutung im Alter von 54 Jahren. Nachdem er in den Sechzigern seine Liebe zur Folkmusik entdeckt hatte, gründete er 1974 seine erste Band "The Country Cavaliers" und spielte später mit Bands wie "Spinifex", "Travelling Country" und "Big Mal & The Breadline Boys".

Developing his love for folk muisc in the sixties he founded his first band "The Country Cavaliers" in 1974 and after that performed with bands like "Spinifex", "Travelling Country" und "Big Mal & The Breadline Boys".

Broadcasters' Hall of Fame

 

Drei neue australische Persönlichkeiten aus den Countrymusic-Medien (Carter Edwards, Dave Prior und Barry Williams) wurden am 15. Januar 2005 laut einer Meldung der Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA) in die Broadcasters' Hall of Fame Honour Roll der Australian Country Music Federation (ACMF) in der Brisbane Street in Tamworth aufgenommen.

 

On January 15th, 2005 three new Australian personalities of the country music broadcasting scene (Carter Edwards, Dave Prior and Barry Williams) have been inducted into the Broadcasters' Hall of Fame Honour Roll located at the Australian Country Music Federation (ACMF) at Brisbane Street in Tamworth. Nachwuchs bei Chad Brock

 

Countrystars.com meldet auf seiner Homepage, daß am 11. Januar 2005 das zweite Kind des Countrysängers Chad Brock und seiner Frau Natalie auf die Welt kam. Der Junge erhielt den Namen Chad Cameron.

Country Music Roll Of Renown

 

Die Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA) meldet, daß am 18. Januar 2005 das australische Countrytrio The Singing Kettles (Bill und Ross Kettle sowie der 1971 verstorbene Max Kettle) und der 1996 verstorbene Athol McCoy, einer der ersten tourenden Countrykünstler Australiens, in die Country Music Roll of Renown, die australische Version der Country Music Hall of Fame, in Tamworth aufgenommen werden.

GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame

 

Die Gospel Music Association (GMA) meldet auf ihrer Homepage, daß am 22. Januar 2005 während einer Zeremonie im Trinity Music City in Hendersonville, Tennessee die Gospelkünstler Walter Hawkins, Mylon Le Fevre, Evie Tornquist und The Lewis Family in die 1971 gegründete GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame aufgenommen werden.

James Jimmy Griffin gestorben

 

WFMB meldet auf seiner Homepage, daß der Sänger und Songwriter James Jimmy Griffin am 12. Januar 2005 im Alter von 61 Jahren an Krebs gestorben ist. Der Harmoniesänger der Popband Bread erhielt einen Songwriter Award der Academy of Country Music für den Carpenters-Hit "Baby I'm A Want You" und schrieb unter anderem "Who's Gonna Know" für Conway Twitty und "You Can Depend On Me" für Restless Heart.

WFMB reports on its website that on January 12th, 2005 61-year-old singer and songwriter James Jimmy Griffin passed away suffering from cancer. Being the harmony singer of the pop band Bread he also received a songriter award by the Academy of Country Music for co-writing The Carpenters' hit "Baby I'm A Want You" and wrote "Who's Gonna Know" For Conway Twitty and "You Can Depend On Me" for Restless Heart.

Laut einer Pressemitteilung der Recording Academy werden neben anderen Musikern die Mitglieder der Original Carter Family („Mother“ Maybelle, A.P. & Sara Carter), Eddy Arnold und Jerry Lee Lewis am 12. Februar 2005 in Los Angeles, einen Tag vor der Grammy-Verleihung, mit einem Lifetime Achievement Award für ihr Lebenswerk ausgezeichnet.

 

The Recording Academy informs in a press release that on February 12th, 2005, the night before the Grammy Award Show, the members of the original Carter Family („Mother“ Maybelle, A.P. & Sara Carter), Eddy Arnold and Jerry Lee Lewis, among other artists, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Cyril Dolman verstorben

 Laut einer Meldung von CBC.ca aus Saskatchewan, Kanada ist der in England geborene Sänger Cyril Dolman am 29. Dezember 2004 im Alter von 91 Jahren in Regina verstorben. In den 50er Jahren wurde er als Slim Wilson and the Prairie Sons bekannt und hatte tägliche Radioshows bei CKCK Radio und CJRM Radio (jetzt CKRM). 1993 hat das Mitglied der Saskatchewan und Canadian Country Music Halls of Fame seine umfangreiche Sammlung von Countrymusic-Erinnerungsstücken an das Saskatchewan-Archiv übergeben.

 Cyril Dolman Passed Away

 CBC.ca from Saskatchewan, Canada reports that on December 29th, 2004 England born country music singer Cyril Dolman passed away in Regina being 91 years old. During the 50’s he became well-known as Slim Wilson and the Prairie Sons and had daily live radio shows at CKCK Radio and CJRM Radio (now CKRM). Being inducted into Saskatchewan and Canadian Country Music Halls of Fame he donated his extensive collection of country music memorabilia to the Saskatchewan archives.

Hank Garland verstorben

 Laut einer Meldung von Country Music Television (CMT) verstarb der Gitarrist Hank Garland am 27. Dezember 2004 im Alter von 74 Jahren in Orange Park, Florida. Hank Garland, einer der führenden Studiogitarristen in Nashville spielte mit Grand Ole Opry Mitgliedern wie Paul Howard und Cowboy Copas, war Mitglied der Band von Eddy Arnold und war an Plattenproduktionen von Red Foley, Patsy Cline, Elvis Presley und den Everly Brothers beteiligt. Seit einem Autounfall im Jahre 1961 konnte er nicht mehr Gitarre spielen.

Country Music Television (CMT) reports that guitarist Hank Garland passed away in Orange Park, Florida being 74 years old. He was one of Nashville’s leading studio guitarists performing with Opry members Paul Howard and Cowboy Copas, touring with the band of Eddy Arnold and recording with Red Foley, Patsy Cline, Elvis Presley and the Everly Brothers. His career was abruptly ended by a car accident in 1961.

Nationalen Filmregister

Neben anderen Kinofilmen wie „Ben Hur“ (1959) und „Schindlers Liste“ (1993) wurde auch der 1957 produzierte Musikfilm „Jailhouse Rock“ mit Elvis Presley in der Hauptrolle auf Beschluß der Library of Congress in das amerikanische National Film Registry aufgenommen. Das Register enthält zur Zeit ca. 400 Filme, die nach kulturellen Gesichtspunkten ausgewählt werden. Das meldet Country Music Television (CMT).

 Country Music Television (CMT) reports that the Library of Congress decided to add the 1957 made movie „Jailhouse Rock“ starring Elvis Presley to the National Film Registry together with other movies like “Ben Hur” (1959) and “Schindler’s List”(1993). The movies for the National Film Registry (about 400 by now) are chosen by cultural aspects.

Mack Vickery verstorben

Country Music Television (CMT) meldet, daß der Sänger und Songwriter Mack Vickery am 21. Dezember 2004 in Nashville im Alter von 66 Jahren an einem Herzinfarkt verstorben ist. Der in Town Creek, Alabama geborene Vickery, dessen Sängerkarriere 1957 bei Sun Records begann, hatte 1974 sein Chartdebut mit „That Kind Of Fool“ bei MCA Records unter dem Namen Atlanta James und schrieb unter anderem Songs wie „The Fireman“ (George Strait), „Rockin’ My Life Away“ (Jerry Lee Lewis) und „The Jamestown Ferry“ (Tanya Tucker). 2002 wurde er mit einem bronzenen Stern auf dem Walkway of Stars der Alabama Music Hall of Fame geehrt.

Mack Vickery Died

On December 21st, 2004 66-year-old singer and songwriter Mack Vickery died in Nashville from a heart attack as Country Music Television (CMT) reports. Born in Town Creek, Alabama he started his singing career in 1957 at Sun Records and had his chart debut in 1974 under the name Atlanta James  with “That Kind Of Life” for MCA Records. He wrote and co-wrote songs like “The Fireman (George Strait), “Rockin’ My Life Away” (Jerry Lee Lewis” and “The Jamestown Ferry” (Tanya Tucker). In 2002 the Alabama Music Hall of Fame honored him with a bronze star on the Walkway of Stars.
