Am 23. Oktober 2004 hat die French Association of Country Music (FACM) die Gewinner der 2. French Country Music Awards bekanntgegeben. Die Awards-Kategorien sind in einen nationalen und einen internationalen Bereich aufgeteilt. Die Liste der Gewinner (in französicher Sprache) findet Ihr auf der Homepage der FACM.

Laut einer Meldung von Countrystars.com ist Angela Herzberg, seit 2001 Ehefrau des 1967 geborenen Countrysängers Gary Allan, am Morgen des 25. Oktober 2004 an „einer selbst herbeigeführten Schussverletzung“ gestorben. Der Sänger hat daraufhin seine geplanten Termine ( 28. Okt. in Portland, 29. Okt. in Uncasville und 30. Okt. in Burgettstown) abgesagt.
Countrystars.com reports that in the early October 25th, 2004 Angela Herzberg, being married with 1967 born country music artist Gary Allan since 2001, passed away of a „self-inflicted gunshot wound“. The artist has cancelled his upcoming US-dates (Oct. 28th in Portland, Oct. 29th in Uncasville and Oct. 30th in Burgettstown).

Der 49jährige Countrysänger Kix Brooks des Duos Brooks & Dunn wird laut einer Meldung von KXRB in Kürze an Knie und Schulter operiert. Er hatte sich im Sommer bei der Teilnahme an einem Eselsrennen in Indianapolis verletzt.
49-year-old country music singer Kix Brooks, half part of the duo Brooks & Dunn, will soon undergo surgery to his rotator cuff and knee, as KXRB reports. He had been injured this summer while taking part in a donkey race in Indianapolis.

Laut einer Meldung von CMT ermittelt die Staatsanwaltschaft in New York gegen Radiostationen, Independent-Promoter und Plattenfirmen wegen gemeinschaftlicher Korruption. Die Rede ist von illegalen Geldzahlungen, um einzelne Songs gezielt in Radioprogrammen unterzubringen.
CMT reports that the New York state attorney general is investigating radio stations, independent record promoters and record companies because of corporate corruption. He’s looking for illegal payments to help songs being played by radio stations.

Fällt Steve Earle-Konzert in Berlin aus?
Nachdem die Berliner Zeitung die Insolvenz des Veranstaltungsortes BKA Luftschloß in Berlin gemeldet und die Absage aller Veranstaltungen bekannt gegeben hat, steht die Durchführung des geplanten Berlin-Auftritts von Steve Earle am 7. Dezember 2004 in Frage. Country Special Radio Berlin ist bemüht, Informationen über eine möglicherweise geplante Verlegung des Konzerts zu erhalten.

Laut einer Meldung von Dateline Alabama verstarb am 17. Oktober 2004 John A. „Johnny“ Faulk, Bassist der Cajun-Band The Hackberry Ramblers, im Lake Charles Hospital im Alter von 79 Jahren. Seit 1979 gehörte er der in den 30er Jahren gegründeten Band an, die vor einiger Zeit für einen Grammy nominiert waren.

Dateline Alabama reports that on October 17th, 2004 John A. „Johnny“ Faulk, bassist of the cajun band The Hackberry Ramblers, passed away at the Lake Charles Hospital being 79 years old. Since 1979 he performed together with the bandwhich was founded in the 30‘s and once was nominated for a Grammy.

Die International Entertainment Buyer's Association (IEBA) hat am 12. Oktober 2004 laut einer Meldung von Countrystars.com dem CMA Music Festival (Nachfolger der Fan Fair in Nashville) den Award „Festival, Fair or Special Event of the Year“ verliehen.

Laut einer Meldung von WCHS-TV wurde am 16. Oktober 2004 aus Anlaß des 50. Jahrestages seines Debuts in der Sendung „Louisiana Hayride“ vor dem Municipal Auditorium in Shreveport, Louisiana eine überlebensgroße Bronzestatue des 1977 verstorbenen „King of Rock’n’Roll“ Elvis Presley aufgestellt.
WCHS-TV reports that on October 16th, 2004 a bigger-than-life bronze sculpture of the „King of Rock’n’Roll“ Elvis Presley who die in 1977 has been unveiled in front of the Municipal Auditorium in Shreveport, Louisiana in memory of his debut at the „Louisiana Hayride“ fifty years ago.

Dabei gewann die 28jährige Countrysängerin Kasey Chambers sowohl in der Kategorie „Best Country Album“ für ihre aktuelle Produktion „Wayward Angel“ als auch in der Rubrik „Best Female Vocal“, wo sie Popstars wie Delta Goodrem, Missy Higgins, Lisa Miller und Kylie Minogue auf die Plätze verwies. Außerdem gewann der 49jährige Sänger und Songwriter Paul Kelly mit seinem Album „Ways & Means“ in der Kategorie „Best Adult Contemporary Album“.

Laut einer Meldung von Country Music Television (CMT) wurde die 1989 gegründete Countryband Diamond Rio am 15. Oktober 2004 während ihres Auftritts in der Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee mit dem Minnie Pearl Award für ihr soziales Engagemnent ausgezeichnet.

Am 16. Oktober 2004 erhielt der Countrysänger Tim McGraw, dessen Wurzeln mütterlicherseits nach Italien reichen, laut einer Meldung von Country Music Televisin (CMT) in Washington einen Award für besondere Verdienste in der Musik von der National Italian American Foundation (NIAF).

Die Zeitung Tennessean meldet, daß der Fiddler Henry Newton „Tommy“ Vaden am 11. Oktober 2004 im Beverly Health Care in Springfield an den Folgen einer Prostatakrebserkrankung verstorben ist. Der in Nashville geborene Tommy Vaden trat schon als Jugendlicher in der Grand Ole Opry auf und war lange Zeit Fiddler in der Band des „Singin‘ Rangers“ Hank Snow. Zusätzlich spielte er mit Cowboy Copas und Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys zusammen und war Studiomusiker für Mac Wiseman, Hank Locklin, Webb Pierce und Faron Young. Seit dem Tod von Hank Snow am 20. Dezember 1999 hatte Tommy Vaden seine Fiddle nicht mehr angefaßt.

Born in Nashville Tommy Vaden performed at the Grand Ole Opry as a teen and was a long-time member of the band of the „Singin‘ Ranger“ Hank Snow. He also performed together with Cowboy Copas and Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys and was a studio musician at recordings of Mac Wiseman, Hank Locklin, Webb Pierce and Faron Young. He didn’t play his fiddle anymore since December 20th, 2004, the day Hank Snow died.

Die 39jährige ind der Schweiz lebende Countrysängerin Shania Twain fliegt am 2. November 2004 laut einer Meldung von WFMB anläßlich des „Shania Twain Day“ in ihre kanadische Geburtsstadt Timmins in Ontario, wo sie an einer nachträglichen offiziellen Einweihung des Shania Twain Center teilnehmen wird. Am 9. November 2004 erscheint übrigens ihr neues Album „Greatest Hits“ mit drei neuen Songs.
WFMB reports that 39-year-old country music singer Shania Twain who lives in Switzerland now will be visiting he Canadian native town Timmins in Ontario for the celebrations of the „Shania Twain Day“ on Novemebr 2nd, 2004 including the belated opening of the Shania Twain Center. On November 9th, 2004 her new album „Greatest Hits“ will be published including three new songs.

KXRB meldet die Geburt der Tochter von Sara Evans und ihrem Ehemann, Craig Schelske. Da snoch namenlose Baby kam in einem Krankenhaus in Nashville zur Welt und ist das dritte Kind des Paares.

Die BBC meldet auf ihrer Homepage, daß der Bürgermeister von New York, Michael Bloomberg, die Vergabe der Country Music Association (CMA) Awards im Jahre 2005 im Madison Square Garden in New York bestätigt hat. Der Umzug der traditionell in Nashville stattfindenden Awardshow gilt allerdings nur für ein Jahr. New York ist der zweitgrößte Countrymusicmarkt in den USA.
BBC reports on its website that New York mayor Michael Bloomberg approved the 2005 Country Music Association (CMA) Awards show will be held at Madison Square Garden in New York. But moving from the traditional Nashville location to the Big Apple will only las for one year. New York is the second biggest market for country music in the USA.

Laut einer Meldung von KLTV ist der Tourbusfahrer des Countrysängers Toby Keith, der 55jährige George Hampton in der Nacht zum 5. Oktober 2004 auf einem Freeway in Dallas, Texas durch einen Schuß am Bein verletzt worden, als er mit drei Insassen (Toby Keith war nicht an Bord) und dem Bandequipment von Florida nach Oklahoma unterwegs war. Bisher konnte kein Verdächtiger ermittelt werden.
KLTV reports that on late October 4th, 2004 55-year-old George Hampton, tour bus driver of country music singer Toby Keith, has been shot into his leg on a Dallas, Texas freeway while driving with the band equipment and three persons from Florida to Oklahoma. Toby Keith has not been on board. There are no suspects by the police by now.

Laut einer Meldung von WCHS-TV mußte sich Joe Riley Diffie, Vater des Countrysängers Joe Diffie und langjähriger Tourbusfahrer der Band von Toby Keith, einer fünffachen Bypass-Operation am Herzen unterziehen, nachdem er am 27. September 2004 ins Krankenhaus eingeliefert worden war. Sein Zustand wird als „vielversprechend“ bezeichnet.
WCHS-TV reports that Joe Riley Diffie, father of countmusic artist Joe Diffey and long-time bus driver for Toby Keith’s band had to undergo quintuple bypass heart surgery after being was hospitalized on September 27th, 2004. His recovery has been called „very promising.“

Laut einer Meldung des kanadischen Radiosenders CJAD wurde die aus Manitoba stammende kanadische Countryrock-Band Doc Walker am 3. Oktober 2004 in der Kategorei „Entertainer of the Year“ mit dem Western Canadian Music Awards ausgezeichnet. Die Band, die in diesem Jahr bereits den Canadian Country Music Award als „Best Group“ erhielt, verwies dabei internationale Stars wie Nickelback, Sarah McLachlan und Nelly Furtado auf die Plätze.

In einer Pressemitteilung meldet die Country Music Association (CMA), daß wie üblich bereits vorab die Gewinner der CMA Broadcast Awards für herausragende Leistungen bei der Förederung und Verbreitung der Countrymusic im Radio benachrichtigt wworden sind. Die Gewinner (die Liste findet Ihr unter o.g. Link) werden ebenso wie alle anderen Preisträger am 9. November 2004 bei der Zeremonie der 38. Jährlichen CMA Awards im Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville geehrt.
