„The Sky Is The Limit“

Die Basis der deutschen Countryformation Simple Union, von der uns das 2004 produzierte Album „The Sky Is The Limit“ vorliegt, war eine 2001 gegründete Familienband bestehend aus Sigi und Doris sowie ihren Töchtern Anja und Carina. Nachdem sie ihre Vorliebe für Countrymusic entdeckt hatten und sich (als blutige Laien) mit anderen Musikern verstärkt hatten, traten sie 2002 mit Erfolg beim Pullman City Country Music Award auf. Auch wir durften diese Band bei der Country Live 2004 in Kassel auf der Bühne erleben und waren von der gebotenen musikalischen Leistung sehr angenehm überrascht. Leider ist dies hier nun eine CD-Besprechung, und da bleibt nur zu sagen, dass die Qualität (trotz Produktion durch die renommierte Münchner Rattlesnake Recording) zu wünschen übrig lässt. Stark verhallte Stimmen über dünnem musikalischen Hintergrund bei Coversongs wie „Honky Tonk Angels“, „Working Man Blues“ und anderen sind leider nicht geeignet, für diese live wirklich überzeugende Formation zu werben. Schade – trotzdem solltet Ihr der Homepage von Simple Union einen Besuch abstatten und Euch einen passenden Live-Auftritt heraussuchen. Diese Band führt hier in Deutschland das Erbe der legendären Familienbands weiter. Wir wünschen Simple Union für die Zukunft weiterhin viel Erfolg und ein glücklicheres Händchen bei der nächsten CD-Produktion.

A musical family formation founded in 2001and consisting of Sigi, Doris and their daughters  Anja and Carina became the basic for the German country music band Simple Union. Finding out their love for country music and (being absolute beginners) completed with some other artists they successfully took part in the 2002 Pullman City Country Music Award in Germany. We heard them performing at the fan fair Country Live 2004 in Kassel/Germany and it was a pleasure to listen to this real good music. But now, this is a cd review, and there’s really a huge difference between their live performance and their latest album “The Sky Is The Limit” produced by Munich Rattlesanke Recording which is normally known for good quality. Voices with strong echo effects dominating a musical backline too thin on cover songs like “Honky Tonk Angels”, Working Man Blues” and others – well, that’s really a bad advertisement for this band. It’s a pity – but hey, have a walk to the website of Simple Union to find out a live gig to visit. You will get a live impression completely different! This band tries to keep up the way of legendary family bands – our best wishes to Simple Union and we hope there will be a better result doing the next album production.
